Seychelles Coast Guard Ship, SCGS Topaz: A Legacy of Service, Courage and Transformation
After two decades of dedicated service, SCGS Topaz leaves behind a proud legacy of courage, resilience and unwavering commitment to safeguarding Seychelles’ maritime domain. Since her commissioning in 2005, the vessel played a key role in anti-piracy patrols, counter-narcotics operations, maritime surveillance and the protection of Seychelles’ Exclusive Economic Zone.
Among her many achievements, SCGS Topaz distinguished herself during successful hostage rescue operations at the height of maritime piracy in 2010 and most recently in January 2024, reflecting the professionalism, bravery and determination of her crew until the very end of her operational service.
Though now decommissioned, SCGS Topaz enters a new chapter, with plans for the vessel to potentially serve as an artificial reef in support of marine conservation and sustainable tourism.
While a ship may retire from service, the legacy of SCGS Topaz lives on through the men and women who proudly served aboard her.
