The Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF), in collaboration with the United States and the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration, Office of Nuclear Smuggling Detection and Deterrence (NSDD) conducted a one-week Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) refinement workshop and associated simulated drills at the Seychelles Coast Guard Base, Perseverance.
The initiative aimed to finalise consensus on operational roles, responsibilities and procedures for the deployment of radiological and nuclear material detection equipment during maritime operations, further strengthening the SDF’s detection capabilities.
The workshop brought together personnel from across the SDF, including members of the Seychelles Coast Guard and Special Operations Unit, as well as participants from the Disaster Risk Management Division (DRMD) and the Attorney General’s Office.
The workshop concluded with a simulated execution of the SOP by a combined boarding team comprising personnel from the Seychelles Coast Guard and Special Operations Unit.
Participants were awarded certificates upon successfully completing the one-week workshop.
