Today, Saturday 12th September 2026, we bid farewell to our fallen military brother, late Sgt. Fanchette O’Neal, in a solemn funeral ceremony held at the Immaculate Conception, Victoria followed by his burial at the Mont Fleuri Cemetery.
The military funeral was conducted with full military honours, reflecting the dedication, discipline and service Sgt. Fanchette O’Neal gave to his country.
The ceremony was attended by the Commander-in-Chief President Dr. Patrick Herminie accompanied by the Vice President Mr. Sebastien Pillay, Former President Mr. Wavel Ramkalawan, members of the Seychelles Defence Forces Command, Senior Officers, Officers, fellow servicemen and women, as well as the relatives and loved ones of the late Sgt. Fanchette.
It was a moment of deep reflection and unity, as we came together to honour a fallen soldier whose commitment and sacrifice will not be forgotten. The presence of the military leadership and comrades in arms stood as a powerful reminder of the bond shared within the Defence Forces.
After the burial, the National Flag was formally handed over to Sgt. Fanchette’s mother by the Chief of Defence Forces, Major General Michael Rosette, symbolizing the nation’s gratitude and honour for her son’s service.
We remember Sgt. Fanchette O’Neal not only as a soldier, but as a brother, a son and a patriot.
