President Herminie Visits Seychelles Coast Guard Facility at Ile Perseverance
In his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Seychelles Defence Forces, President Dr. Patrick Herminie on Tuesday visited the Seychelles Coast Guard facility at Ile Perseverance to engage with officers and review ongoing operations.
The visit formed part of the President’s ongoing efforts to familiarise himself with various SDF units and their operational environments, including the facilities, assets, personnel, and challenges they face in discharging their responsibilities. The engagement also provided an opportunity for President Herminie to gain first-hand insight into the capabilities, operational constraints, and evolving needs of the Seychelles Coast Guard in executing its mandate.
During the visit, the Commander of the Coast Guard, Lieutenant Colonel David Arrisol, provided an overview of the capabilities and infrastructure that support the country’s maritime security operations. The President toured several facilities, including the newly constructed jetty and slipway, as well as workshop facilities. He also visited the Maritime Operations Centre (MOC), where he was briefed on Maritime Domain Awareness tools and operational coordination. The visit also included a demonstration on the employment of tactical drones used by the Defence Forces.
Present during the visit were the Chief of Defence Forces, Major General Michael Rosette; the Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, Brigadier General Jean Attala; and the Chief of Staff of the Seychelles Defence Forces, Colonel Michael Hollanda, along with several Coast Guard officers who accompanied the President during the tour of the base.
President Herminie expressed appreciation for the professionalism and dedication of the sailors, petty officers, officers and all staff, commending their commitment to safeguarding the nation despite operational challenges. He also reaffirmed the importance of supporting the men and women who serve on the frontlines of national security and in protecting Seychelles’ people and maritime borders.
