Seychelles Defence Forces Chief of Staff (COS) Colonel Jean Attala and Senior Staff Officer (SSO) Lieutenant Colonel Alain Pierre attended the Eastern African Standby Force (EASF) 31st Ordinary Policy Organs Meeting (POM) held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 09 to 14 February 2023. This year’s meeting was conducted under the theme: ‘Transform EASF, Build Peace and Security in the Eastern African region’.
Lt Col Pierre attended the Experts Working Group Meeting whilst the Chief Of Staff represented the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) at the meeting of the EASF Committee of Chief of Defence Staff (EACDS) and the Council of Ministers Meeting. Seychelles Ambassador to African Union (AU) Ambassador Conrad Mederic was also present at the Council of Ministers Meeting.
The two officers also met with other various local military officers and civilian staff working with EASF and AU also present.
Several key decisions regarding the management and future of EASF were made during the meeting, including the appointment of a new Director and Force Commander who will replace the outgoing whose mandate are coming to an end this year.
