Five foreign divers were recovered today following an extensive search and rescue operation coordinated by the Seychelles Coast Guard (SCG) Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC). The coordination also involved the active participation of the Seychelles Maritime Safety Authority (SMSA) and National Information Sharing and Coordination Centre (NISCC).
The Search was initiated after a report was filed with SCG late in the afternoon, to inform that five divers had not been sighted at the location they were supposed to have resurface at a dive site north of Mahe.
Coast Guard boats, Marine Police, Zil Air Helicopter and Seychelles Air Force (SAF) Dornier aircraft were dispatched to the general area, as well as several civilian boats.
SAF Dornier aircraft was able to locate the floating divers a couple of hours later and divert SCG and another civilian boat to pick the divers who were afloat. They were all in good physical condition and were brought ashore by SCG boat and later transported to Seychelles Hospital for routine medical observation.
SCG, SMSA and NISCC would like to thank all those who participated in the operation and for the good cooperation and coordination throughout.
