DEFENCE FORCES DAY – COMMEMORATIVE CEREMONY
It was in a commemorative ceremony held at the Seychelles Defence Academy Ile Perseverance that the new flag and logo of Seychelles Defence Forces were officially unveiled by the Chief of Defence Forces Brigadier Micheal Rosette.
The new logo was explained in a short presentation by Lt Col Didace Hoareau.
The highlight of the event was the promotion of seven officers. The officers were promoted to their new ranks by President Wavel Ramkalawan in his capacity as the Commander-in-Chief.
Captain Dave Mathieu was promoted to the rank of Major, Lieutenants Marlon Charlie, Stan Tomking, Dennis Jeremy, Luigi Loizeau and Edwin Constance were promoted to the rank of Captain, And Officer Cadet Benjamin Esparon was commissioned to the rank of Second Lieutenant.
The Commander in Chief congratulated all the officers promoted and wished them all the best in their work with their additional responsibilities and duties, before thanking all the soldiers present for their remarkable work over last two years.He emphasized that the capabilities of the Defence Forces had undergone numerous beneficial changes. The SDF also participated in a number of local and regional successful operations. He stated that in order to maintain the SDF as a cutting edge and efficient force, new equipment and training would be necessary to ensure mission success.
In his address, Brigadier Michael Rosette thanked the officers, and all military personnel for their hard work, dedication and loyalty. He emphasized that the changes currently happening within the force are necessary for the SDF to keep up with the ever-changing security threats and remain engaged with the society it forms part of.
Also at the ceremony the participants of Battle Field 3.0 were presented with awards and certificates. In addition, the winning team also received the star prize of a trip to Aldabra and other outer islands, sponsored by the SDF.
