US NAVAL FORCES COMMENCE HYDROGRAPHIC SURVEY AND DIVE OPERATIONS IN COLLABORATION WITH SEYCHELLES COAST GUARDS AND SEYCHELLES PORTS AUTHORITY
Commander Task Force 68 (CTF-68), which forms part of US Naval Forces Africa, are currently in Seychelles to undertake survey and dive operations at the request of the Seychelles Government. The work is being undertaken by United States Naval Construction Forces “Seabees” and its two areas of focus is to conduct a hydrographic survey of the port area, as well as to remove the wreckage of a submerged vessel within the port area. They will be working in close partnership with the Seychelles Ports Authority and the Seychelles Coast Guards.
Divers from the SDF are taking part in the underwater salvage operations which begun on 05th December, and is expected to last for around two weeks. This will prove to be a very beneficial learning opportunity as they will get to observe and practice various aspects of dive operations planning and execution.
During a small ceremony this morning, senior officials including the Chief of Staff were briefed about the ongoing works and had the opportunity to observe the dive operations. LieutenantColonel David Arrisol, Acting Commander of Seychelles Coast Guards, thanked the United States of America government to assist the force with these professional navy divers for realization of this operation. He also thanked the port authority management for the good coordination and support provided and will continue to give until the completion of this project.
This engagement further cements the excellent relations between not only the Seychelles and United States government, but as well between the Seychelles Defence Forces and the United States Navy.
