Recruit Intake 01/2026 Successfully Completes Pass of Square
At the end of February, recruits of Intake 01/2026 successfully completed their Pass of Square, marking the conclusion of the initial six weeks of Basic Military Training, which spans over a period of 90 days. The event represents a key milestone in the early stages of a recruit’s military journey and serves as the culminating assessment of their foundational training.
The Pass of Square evaluated the recruits’ development in discipline, knowledge, and adherence to military standards through four distinct phases.
The assessment began with a barracks inspection, during which recruits were evaluated on the cleanliness, organization, and maintenance of their living quarters. This phase aimed to instill precision, responsibility, and respect for shared facilities—qualities that form an essential part of military life.
This was followed by a parade inspection, where recruits were assessed on their turnout, uniform standards, and personal grooming. Attention to detail and strict adherence to dress regulations are fundamental aspects of professionalism within the Seychelles Defence Forces.
The third phase consisted of a drill assessment on the parade square. During this stage, recruits demonstrated their ability to execute coordinated drill movements, reflecting teamwork, discipline, and responsiveness to command.
The final stage involved reporting to the inspecting officer, where recruits formally saluted and responded to questions, demonstrating their knowledge of military fundamentals, confidence, and bearing.
The successful completion of the Pass of Square serves as a comprehensive measure of the recruits’ mastery of basic military skills and standards. It also reflects the dedication and commitment shown by both the recruits and their instructors throughout the training programme as the intake continues its progression within the Seychelles Defence Forces.
