In a ceremony this morning at State House, President Wavel Ramkalawan, in his capacity as Commander in Chief, commisioned, promoted and appointed a group of military officers
Cadet Officers Christopher Amelie, Ray Charles, Ron Dufrene and Tariq Cedras were commissioned to the rank of 2nd Lieutnant after successfully completing their six months overseas course in India.
Second Lieutnant C.Amelie from Seychelles Air Force is a pilot by appointment, while Second Lieutnants R. Charles, R.Dufrene and Tariq Cedras are from the Seychelles Coast Guard.
Promotion and appointments of officers as follows:
Brigadier Micheal Rosette was promoted to the rank of Major General and was re-appointed as the Chief of Defence Forces.
Colonel Jean Attala was promoted to the rank of Brigadier, followed by his appointment as Deputy Chief of Defence Forces.
Lieutnant Colonel Micheal Hollanda was promoted to the rank of Colonel, followed by his appointment as Chief of Staff.
Captains Rhonda Youpa, Archille Uzice and Gerald Wong-Pool were promoted to the rank of Major.
Lieutenants Connie Anthony and Ricky Leon were promoted to the rank of Captain.
Second Lieutnant Nel Hypolite and Alvin Vidot were promoted to the rank of Lieutnant.
President Ramkalawan congratulated the newly promoted officers and emphasized that in the context of a small force like the SDF, the introduction of the rank Major General does not correlate with the size of the force or its number of personnel. Instead, it reflects the complexity of the responsibilities held by top leadership and the need for effective command and influence, and allows Seychelles to engage on equal terns with international counterparts, particularly in collaborative maritime security initiatives.
Furthermore, the new structure intergrates experienced officers into key roles that ensures leadership continuity and equips the next generation to address the complex security demands effectively.
Amongst those who attended the ceremony were close family members of the Officers, First Lady Linda Ramkalawan, Vice President, Mr. Ahmed Afif, Members of the Defence Forces Council and other Senior Government Officals.
