Seychelles Defence Forces takes part in first African Maritime Forces Summit.
The Chief of Staff, Col Jean Attala and Commanding Officer Special Forces Unit, Lt Col Archil Mondon were among the 80 delegates at the inaugural African Maritime Forces Summit (AMFS). The summit took place in Sal Island, Cabo Verde from 20-22 March 2023.
Hosted by Naval Forces Africa (NAVAF), AMFS brought together maritime and marine infantry leaders to address transnational maritime security challenges within African waters.
During the summit, the Chief of Staff was a panellist on the Operational Perspectives on Maritime Security panel, where he made a presentation and with other panellist discussed on operational issues, information-sharing and interoperability amongst other related issues.
The SDF delegation had the opportunity to engage in bilateral discussions with key senior military officials, to include Commander of U.S Naval Forces Europe and Africa, Admiral Stuart B. Munch, Rear Admiral Laura Dickey the U.S Coast Guard Deputy Commander Atlantic Area and Rear Admiral Massimiliano Lauretti from the Italian Navy.
