Seychelles Defence Forces pays tribute to 11/11 – Armistice Day
Friday November 11, marks the passing of 104 years since the First World War was ended after just over four years of fighting. It was on this day 11 November at exactly 11 am in the year 1918 that the Armistice was signed in the Forest of Compiègne, north of the French capital of Paris.
Since then, Remembrance Sunday is observed on the Sunday nearest to Armistice Day on the 11th of November.
Seychelles amongst other Commonwealth nations throughout the world, commemorate Remembrance Sunday and honour the brave Seychellois soldiers who sacrificed their lives in this historic event.
This annual event pays homage to all the soldiers involved, whereby the laying of poppy wreaths at the cenotaph at the Mont Fleuri cemetery where the names of the Seychellois servicemen who died in both World Wars are listed.
Our very own Seychelles Defence Forces soldiers were present to conduct the armistice salute under the command of WOI Richard Larue.

Attendees of the event layed wreaths at the cenotaph including The Vice President Mr. Ahmed Afif, Chief Justice Mr Ronny Govinden, speaker of the National Assembly Mr. Roger Mancienne, Chief of Defence Forces Brigadier Michael Rosette, Commissioner of Police Mr Ted Barbe amongst other members of the diplomatic corps.
A group of ex-service men, service personnels of the Seychelles Defence forces, government representatives and families of the fallen war veterans were also present to pay their respect.
